Wakabaya

Well, I’m surprised. This place was unexpected, and delicious!
Of what I ordered, I am able to say a certain part of it was perfect. First up, the Ogon-nabe (green pepper hot pot) is good. The Shabu-shabu (braised meat) is a very good version of the dish I cook at home. Maybe, chicken, konbu (dried seaweed) and other things are cooked in a dashi soup stock. The strong pepper flavour brings out the nabe’s flavour and the dashi is delicious.
And green paper rice is made as the last item on the menu. Green peppers are filled with rice following the rules of Yutenji’s ‘Chuya’ and Kyushu bars which would fill with mince but here it’s different. In short they’ re fried rice peppers. Despite it’s blunt appearance, the taste is too good to be too critical.
The owner is a famous MC and seems to adopt cooking from different parts of Japan he visits. Are the roots of this nabe there as well? If so, I want to go somewhere else (laugh)
Anyhow, I will revisit. I mean, here is the place to come when in Nagoya.
