The pretty good design the Volvo is being updated with a new XC60. The design is reasonable enough, but perhaps feels not as refined as the V40. The rear also looks a little if not a lot like an American car, while the front grill feels unusually large.

Adapting up the recent Volvo shape to vehicle height like this maybe more difficult than the design being a problem. But this may be resolved given time. Porsche also had a really hard time to begin with adapting the shape of Porsche to SUV.

That said, the V40 has a compact style and detailing seems natural.
