Porsche 989
The prototype 989 was made in order to explore a 4-door Porsche for the first time, around ’88 to ’91.
The front right-turn indictor for example, led to detailing seen here and there on the first generation Boxster and later the 996, but in terms of design the taste of what constitutes the 4-door 911 as it is, gives the impression of not having a 4-door system like the current Cayenne and Panamera with a style all its own. The image of the 911 may have suffered without the popular 4-door if the unused design had stayed when released.
In 1991, this plan was canceled and although unreleased, Porsche achieved their wish after many years, and it appeared 20 years later in the form of the Panamera in 2010.
