The remodelled 718 Cayman has been announced.

Porsche so far had seen a big difference in power between the Cayman and Boxster with the Cayman treated as superior, but the current coupe and open top versions of the same 718 are the same as the Boxster and in that way is priced higher. It’s the same with the relationship between the 911 coupe and cabriolet. This certainly feels more refreshing.

However, the ‘718’ and ‘718 Cabriolet’ are perhaps a lot easier to understand. If in the future they were to make a mid-level or low-end model with perhaps the name ‘550’, the model configuration of ‘550/718/911’ would be much clearer. But, discarding the names ‘Boxster’ and ‘Cayman’ would be dreadful waste, as both have commanded high price tags up until now.
