Omusubi-mura
Nagasaki has an ‘onigiri’ (rice ball) restaurant called ‘Kaniya’.
Although good to gobble down after drinking , there is also ‘oden’ (a winter dish) and other single dishes, but being careful, I finish up with onigiri and one more drink.
And even though they come with different ingredients, here onigiri contains ‘salted mackerel’. Kyushu food begins and ends with ‘shio-saba’ (salted mackerel). Rest assured, it is one of the best nights out in Nagasaki.
In the Nakasu area of Fukuoka, theres also a branch of ‘Kaniya’ … I thought it had been turned into something like a crab ‘shabu-shabu’ (hotpot) restaurant. They do have things like onigiri here, but having the same name I wonder if theres a connection with ‘Kaniya’ in Nagasaki … ?
Since I felt a little uncertain, I went to ‘Omusubi-mura’ instead.
The menu system was virtually the same as ‘Kaniya’. First of all, was Oden, finishing off with beer. The shellfish soup, and long-awaited onigiri, which of course is shio-saba, were delicious!
Finishing up, I would ordinarily have ramen, but maybe I’ll get some onigiri instead.
