Makoto

Lunch in Fukuoka is grilled mackerel ‘teishoku’ (set meal) at ‘Makoto’.
Theres no menu. Once you’re shown to a table, tofu comes out along with tea and ‘oshinko’ (pickled vegetables).
And shortly after, baked mackerel with miso soup and rice pilled high like some cartoon.
Mackerel rates the best and I sometime stock-up myself and store as frozen. That way delicious mackerel can be eaten all year round. Ever since I saw this establishment on television I have wanted to go. This is my first time, as there is so much temptation around with lunch in Fukuoka often tempura at ‘Daruma’ or pickled mackerel at ‘Masafuku’, so I’m often unable to go anywhere else.
The fatty mackerel is delicious. And the sweet miso soup it seems is made from ‘mugi’ (barley) miso is exquisite. Sweet and delicious. The long queues outside this well-known establishment means they inevitably sell-out.
