So following a recommendation from my student the night we arrived at Portland we immediately booked a table at DOC.
DOC is far from downtown where I was staying, but rather closer to the airport. As soon as I opened the door and saw the kitchen, I thought to myself “I can see myself in a place like this.” It’s interesting that where they cook is right next to the front door.
On advice from the waiter, I went with tasting the chef’s recommendation for ‘Portland’ food. When in rome, after all! He also suggested a good wine to match, but I decided to start with beer, exhausted from the long journey.
First up, an appetiser of roast pork—a stunning fusion of Portland and Italy. Then home made pasta with an exquisite texture. It was wonderful and my body didn’t even notice. Though there were lots of delicious dishes, we shared them between us. I want to order wine this time.
With all the local advice the waiter gave us that evening, we had no choice but to enjoy the next day even more, walking around town.
