Double-Swiss Underline

An early hand-wound Daytona that is also commonly called a ‘Double-Swiss’ is said to have been only present in the stainless steel bezel of Ref.6239.

At the 6 o’clock position ‘SWISS’ is written twice hence the name. The black dial is the same as a normal Daytona, but the dial in silver has a matte finish, is slightly whitish in colour and quite special.

There are roughly two types with and without an underline, and the type with is commonly referred to as ‘Double-Swiss Underline’.

With that, the ‘Double-Swiss’ is characterised by having a long hour hand. The hour hand on the the left example is original while the hour hand on the right has been replaced with something shorter. (The stop hand on the right is better, but …)

The distinctive whitish matt finish is a feature of the silver dial.

The double ‘SWISS’ labelling can clearly be seen when viewed this way.
