Hechikan

The business in Noge that operates before the bar was open is a rental-style ramen shop, and is said to be truly unique. I heard about it when I visited frequently.
But I am not interested in ramen so much. But I am not so interested in Ramen.
It is said to be limited to 3 or 4 days a week, and so never really make the effort to head over there when open.

Apparently, ‘Hechikan’ opened properly, but only at night.
It close to the nearby ‘Ribatei’, but only went there.

Of course during the daytime it is a ramen shop.
But in the evening it doesn’t seem to serve noodles … but, perhaps it does, so I ask again …
And the answer again is no.
Instead, the menu consists ‘Nihonshu’ (Japanese rice wine) and bottled beer, with only 4 dishes available.
It is the sort of place where you either want to stay and enjoy a little bit of Nihonshu,
or have a short sharp drink and leave.

Chicken breast and watercress salad.
As I love watercress, this way of cooking leaving vegetables as they are is nice.
I also start with Sapporo lager (Akeboshi)

Aburi Niku (Sliced meat sushi, lightly braised on top).
So-called Roast Pork.
Has outstanding seasoning. The meat tastes even more powerful with wasabi and soy sauce.

On the other side are the self-service utensils for serving ramen.
For drinking Nihonshu, on the counter are jugs just for water should you need to drink some.
I take a glass for my beer from here.

Todays ‘greens’ are salty ‘Shungiku’ (Japanese herb)
This is also good with the flavour of the herb still coming through.

Nihonshu is something that’s brewed locally in a Kanagawa Brewery.
Which I am recommended to try.
And made to select my Ochoko (the serving bottle) from a small collection of antiques.

If I am drinking Nihonshu, I order Shime-saba (pickled mackerel)
Even though I am full, when asked, I want to drink a little more, though more to eat is not necessary.
I really care about this shop and would order something else but … with so few things on the menu I could easily change my mind. Everything is a small bowl size here. Smaller portions are even better.
I also really want those soup noodles that I am not able to eat, which are only served daytime.
I sign off with a little drink.
That makes this a well-known store within another well-known store.
