New Miyashita Park spot "Starbucks MYST," designed by Hiroshi Fujiwara, now open

Designed by Hiroshi Fujiwara of "fragment design," the new "Starbucks Coffee MIYASHITA PARK store" opened on August 4, 2020. With an inorganic design inspired by overseas gas stations, this shop is located in Shibuyakuritsu Miyashita Park, which is actually on the rooftop of the new Shibuya landmark facility "MIYASHITA PARK." It is the 5th Starbucks store to be opened in a Tokyo park.

The spotlight shopping center of the year, MIYASHITA PARK, has gradually opened in stages instead of conducting a grand opening due to the impact of COVID-19. LOUIS VUITTON opened on July 6, while stores and galleries in the MIYASHITA PARK commercial area opened on July 28. Following the opening of restaurants on August 4, the Starbucks Coffee MIYASHITA PARK store opened its doors for business right after Shibuyakuritsu Miyashita Park was opened to the public.

The new Miyashita Park has been rebuilt on the rooftop and now comes with a new multi-purpose sports facility and a 1,000 square meter lawn, in addition to the skating rink and rock climbing wall that locals have come to adore. Located right in the center of this extensive park, the Starbucks Coffee MIYASHITA PARK store looks like a box plunked in the middle of nowhere. Designer Hiroshi Fujiwara's got his inspiration from the gas stations that can be spotted in the middle of nowhere alongside long interstate roads overseas. The store's design features two glass doors that fully open on both sides, allowing the store to take in the natural light and blend in with its surroundings, contrary to its exterior appearance.

In order for the green grass to lead people into the shop, a portion of the floor is painted in a similar green color. The ceiling uses the same mesh used in the building structure, intentionally leaving the structure exposed. The tall white round chairs around the large glass table (equipped with outlets) in the center of the store and the black shell chairs are all custom stamped with the lightning mark "FRGMT MYST."

The shelf at the back of the store is lined with merchandise and coffee beans and automatically opens when you move your hand close to it. All of the merchandise is designed by Hiroshi Fujiwara as souvenirs and is available throughout the year. Stamped with the shop's ID "MYST," the water bottles and tumblers are based on past popular staples. In addition, Starbucks' first T-shirt (2 colors, 4 sizes available) will also be available for purchase. Although not for sale, the uniforms worn by the shop staff were also designed by Hiroshi Fujiwara.

While the shop will not be using any of the seats in the store for a while after opening and will mainly serve take-out, many people have already been visiting Miyashita Park since the park opened, having fun on the green grass and at the rock climbing facilities. Following the footsteps of the beloved B-SIDE store in Harajuku Cat Street, the day is close when all will recognize the monicker "MYST" that takes the letter M from MIYASHITA.
