6263 Mk1 Black

Looking at Daytona for so long has led me to wonder whether or not the normal Black Mk1 Ref.6263 was the most complete dial in terms of design. Of course, the fact that it isn’t as overwhelming as the PN does mean it is the ultimate in standard design.

There used to be a time when the so-called Big Red was popular, known as the latter-period red Daytona lettering, but now all the attention is on a small number of Mk1 and Sigma. In particular, early Mk1 are searing in price, with those in top condition having exceeded 150,000 USD.

While that design without red lettering is also attractive, the interesting part is still the serial number. The Mk1 dial fits a serial number case somewhere around 2.0-3.3, but pieces with 2.0-2.9 that carry either a Mk1 or Mk0 pusher stand out as being particularly beautiful. As of now, collectors worldwide are currently looking for Mk1 as per this serial. However, since this case is also used for Ref.6263 PN Panda, there are few left with a normal Mk1 dial.

With a case that should also be referred to as the HolyGrail, so to speak, the most difficult thing to do is discover the 2.08-2.2 serial case used for both the Mk1 Panda and OysterDown.

In the case of a collector-like sense, is it extravagant to “intentionally use a case with a Panda for the Mk1”? It could also be said the above is what makes the Mk1 so attractive. However, it may be a model that depends on the condition of the bezel and pushers, as the design of the dial and case are simple.

Of course, the model after Big Red is also good, but the mood has changed a little. It’s the mood of recent Rolex that also feel like they’re period-specific.
