Paul Newman’s 6239PN
This is the actual Ref.6239 belonging to Paul Newman himself.
The condition is not that good but seeing as this is of special significance that may not matter. Normally, when such things go on display, the brand itself (or in this case Rolex) often makes the winning bid but as a company Rolex is very unlikely to do something like that.
Does that mean it places “an importance on the latest technology and the current model”, instead of simply being frugal with money? That is why no matter how expensive a vintage model is they’re not directly related to the brand, and perhaps also show the emphasis placed on customers of current models as important for the brand.
Of course, the popularity of Rolex itself is pushed by the hype of vintage models that cost more, but there may also be “an aesthetic that does not look backward”.
