Cartier Crash London in Phillips New York
Crash's original appears in PHILLIPS in N.Y. The Crash was first made in 1967, and by the early 1970s, only a dozen or so (there are various theories) were produced, making it a legendary model with a very unique shape. Since then, Cartier has produced several limited editions of the Crash. A limited edition London Crash from the 1980s, an ultra-limited platinum Paris Crash from the early 1990s, and a limited edition of 400 pieces presented at Cartier Paris in 1991. In particular, it seems that reprints are being sold regularly at the London store.
This watch is one of the "Original Crash" manufactured by Cartier London since 1967, with the London hallmark on the inside of the caseback, manufactured in 1970. The case back is engraved with “Swiss Movement” which is not found on other models. This individual is the first individual to be put on the market by a descendant of the original owner, Daphne Farago. (For crashesHODINKEE ArticlesSee here for details. )
Speaking of Crash, Kanye, Kim, Tyler and others have all obtained it for several years. Not the original, but even the reprinted version soared at $200,000. In 2022, the original Crash will sell for $1.5 million. I think this is the 5th original Crash to be auctioned.
An individual exhibited at Sotheby's.
