—Please tell us about your encounter.
Kajiwara Yukke (Kajiwara):I've known about ENGINEERED GARMENTS for a long time, but I was able to say hello about 10 years ago. We met at the Nepenthes shop event that we do every Fashion Week in NY.
Suzuki Daiki (hereinafter Suzuki):It's been a while since the brand has been close to 20 years. I started selling overseas in 2004. It's been 15 years since then, so it's fast.
Kajiwara:My boss when I was at BEAMSNEPENTHESI was close to the founding members when I founded the company, and I often saw Mr. Oki. In my previous job, BEAMS, I also worked as a business partner. after,ENGINEERED JEANSThat line came out from LEVI'S at that time. Wearing a nameToI was wondering(Lol)
Suzuki:The name I came up with was just the same. I am surprised that some people think the same thing because fashion has a era. I was confident that some people would have noticed that the name was covered.
―You both have the image of NY, but what is the attraction of the city?
Suzuki:It's the biggest city in America, but it's a strange place that doesn't look like America. Everything is “NY-like”. It's like a different country. On the contrary, I think LA and California are very American cities. I've been living here because it's an exciting and interesting place, but recently I'm feeling calm about NY, and I think I may move to another place.
Kajiwara:I knew the country of America through things, but I think that it was NY where I actually visited various cities and finally arrived. In NY, for example, San Francisco-born beat literature flourished, and people and things from other states and countries often became major. Due to the urban structure of NY, various things are organized and spread throughout the world, so I think it is a place for fixed-point observation. If you look at what happens and how it changes, it's easy to predict what will happen next. Nowhere else can you find the fun. The fashion trends announced in Paris are no longer the norm, and in NY, people's lifestyles and lifestyles are tested once, and then spread and become established. There are more movements than fashion, so I think that clothes are something that comes with it.
—here30In the yearNYWhat do you think has changed the most?
Suzuki:I feel that the distance from Japan is very close. It has become common to say "I'm going to NY tomorrow". Thirty years ago there were fewer flights to NY. Even when I'm in Tokyo, I feel like New York in terms of distance and feeling.
Kajiwara:Is it also affected by the exchange rate? After that, I think that the speed of information coming in and going out will be great due to the spread of the Internet.
Suzuki:There used to be a time lag of about a year from the arrival of new information from NY to Tokyo, but now it's a feeling that information is moving and moving at the same time. In that sense, it's interesting now that everyone has come down to business and making new things. I myself continue to create with the designs that I have accumulated in making clothes, rather than making brand new ones, so I think I am not so affected by the changes of the times. However, when it comes to what happens around me, I'll be observing and incorporating it into my design. I think that something of an era is expressed.
Kajiwara:Fans are being punished for this. Adults with discerning eyes will be able to grasp the fresh colors and prints, the materials they want to wear now, and the details that are irresistible to those who liked American casual. I don't think there is a brand that can cover the keyword that adults can wear properly.
―That's your first collaboration this time. Please tell us the background.
Kajiwara:I was taken care of every time I went to NY,ENGINEERED GARMENTSI've been using clothes for a long time. However, I'm a big fashion senior, so I'm so afraid that I don't think I can do something together. At work, I'm working on a project to make clothes with GRAMICCI and LOOPWHEELER on the theme of "clothes I want to wear", and when I talked about that, Mr. Oki said, "Well, I also do it with me. Let's try. " Then the story started.
Suzuki:When I heard that he was working with a manufacturer who knew what he wanted to wear, he thought it was a great project. He knows a lot about the brand, so I think I can do something interesting.
― Mr. KajiwaraENGINEERED GARMENTSWhat are your favorite items in?
Kajiwara:Shirt, jacket and shorts. Even with the same standard model, it's fun to see the shape and details of the pocket change with each season. I don't wear jackets that much throughout the year, but it has the appeal of buying. I like shorts, but I usually wear them in one season. The details of bondage pants are applied, and the details are elaborate. Simply by wearing a simple T-shirt, knit, and a little twist, the styling will bring the twist to life. Routine that he wears white shirts everyday and wears T-shirts only in summer. So for this collaboration, I wanted to make a shirt collection.
