The Crimes That Bind (Inori no Maku ga Oriru Toki)
A lot of the attraction of ‘The Newcomer’ (Shinzanmono) feels lost when turned into a film, although it is by far my favorite novel by Keigo Higashino.
Although I really love the Detective Galileo series ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’ as a film and brought to the screen, the ‘The Newcomer’ series is lacking.
Of course, when ‘The Crimes That Bind’ (Inori no Maku ga Oriru Toki) came out, said to be the last in the series, I read it straight away, but it left something to be desired somehow. It just … finished. Huh?
Nevertheless, it all made sense when I saw the film. This is definitely the conclusion. It’s disappointing I couldn’t get any of the same appeal from the book. Maybe I read it too quickly.
The story intersecting the struggles of parent and child had a decent enough reaction from fans. I’m glad I saw it.
