Cartier Tank Jacqueline Kennedy
The Cartier Tank The Cartier Tank made in 1962 and owned by Jacqueline Kennedy went to auction at Christie’s in New York and fetched 379,500 USD.
Even though the Tank was made in 1962, the design of the dial looks closer to one made in the ‘40s instead. Naturally without Cartier’s hidden 10 o’clock signature, the FRANCE logo is often found in many dials from the ‘30s and ‘40s. This is a wonderful specimen regardless of Jacqueline’s history.
The piece is on the left hand of this famous photograph.

The presidential order that “a marine officer should complete a 50-mile hike within 20 hours” that once existed was issued by Roosevelt in 1908. Then in 1962 President Kennedy threw down the gauntlet of this challenge to White House staff. Kennedy’s brother-in-law Prince Stanislaw Radziwill would rise to the challenge in a similar fashion, departing on February 22nd, 1963 at 02.05am and finishing at 9:35pm the following day. To celebrate the occasion, Radziwill gave Jaqueline a Cartier Tank engraved with “Stas to Jackie, 23 feb.63 2:05am to 9:35pm”. It is said that Jacqueline gave Radziwill a picture containing the message.
The small picture drawn by Jacqueline and her Tank have now been exhibited together.
