Geneva Auction Report

Phillips and Chrisite’s were also the major players of the Geneva auction this time. When they come together at Geneva’s Four Seasons Hotel in May they’re a classic sight for the world’s top dealers and super collectors.

Well the auction has delivered this time, but I think the big news is the fact that two Rolex watches fetched 4-500 million CHF. Especially the pure gold Ref.6263 PN which was given the mark of fetching the most amount of money worldwide as a Daytona.

It had been said that the pure gold model Daytona PN Oyster does not exist. There are three in the world as of now, and this is one of them.

In addition to the surprise that two JPS (black PN in pure gold) appeared this time, one of the non-Tiffany Ref.6241 JPS was successfully fetched the high price of 550K CHF. Of course, the winning bid for the Tiffany JPS was naturally high with 730K CHF, but it was a surprise that this normal JPS fetched as much as 550K CHF.

Also, the Ref.6263 Khanjar showed a steady strength. The item this time was a combination of silver and green, yet was carried almost the same amount of markings as Ref.6241 JPS Tiffany. Considering the Oman is a silver dial in stainless steel, the status is now higher than the pure gold PN.

As for the PN, a total of seven were exhibited at Christie’s and as expected their steady strength was impressive. However with each of the winning bids varying slightly, it felt as if condition had been a deciding factor. Good items were expensive and bad items priced accordingly. One such piece, a Ref.6264 Panda in good condition could almost be something of a breakthrough with the news that it surpassed 300K CHF.

And this one was also really impressive. A 14K Ref.6264 Tiffany with Champagne dial. In the first place, there are only a few pure gold Ref.6264 with the strong history of Tiffany. And a specimen is also listed on page six of Pucci’s Daytona book with a slightly brown inset dial. Well, it is bound to be as well rated if it matches a condition such as this.

It is this one on the right hand side.

There were also all sorts of things this time but it was the power of ROLEX as always that made the strongest impact at auction.
