Oyster Classic / Oyster Split

It is normal for the pure gold Ref.6263/65 to be a 4Line dial because notation added is by way of the chronometer rating.

However, there only a few the same 3Line with a normal dial plate and stainless steel case with an early serial number. That model is commonly referred as the ‘Oyster Classic’, a model with a very limited serial number that is very hard to come by.

And then subsequently the 4Line notation is normal, even though very few exist where 4 lines are split in two above and below. This is called the ‘Oyster Split’ and it is also quite valuable.

That said, it is interesting when you look back on the basic stainless steel model, as it is somewhat different from the model with a pure gold case.

And since they total fewer than the stainless steel model, matching dial with case can be very challenging. Also the originality of both bezel and needle are said to be harder to determine. But according to those that love Rolex, that is what makes them so interesting.
