A mystical rainy atmosphere paired with songs by Sade at sacai's SS 2021 collection shown at Enoura Observatory
Enoura Observatory, Odawara Cultural Foundation, was born in 2017 in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. "Sacai" held a runway show for the Spring / Summer 2020 collection on October 7, set in a magnificent landscape with a total area of 3,000 tsubo overlooking Sagami Bay, designed by contemporary artist Hiroshi Sugimoto.
Just the day before, Paris Fashion Week, a mix of digital and physical, was just over. Many Japanese brands gave up traveling this season and made digital announcements in conjunction with the Fashion Week platform, but sacai did not participate in it and since the joint show with "UNDERCOVER", 2 We have decided to hold a show in Japan for the second time.
The venue, Enoura Observatory, is less than two hours drive from the city center. Choosing a place that is hard to say close is also a place that designer Chitose Abe likes, and it is judged that it is uniquely suitable for performing a show under the current circumstances. This was the first time a fashion show was held at the facility, and about 200 invited guests visited to see the unique competition.
In the stone garden overlooking the magnificent nature that became the show venue, box-shaped audience seats separated by acrylic like a small small room are lined up, turning into a view just like contemporary art. The original audience seats, which fits comfortably in one person, were able to maintain their own space by being cut off from the neighbors, and were able to withstand the rain that accidentally fell from the ceiling.
After 17:00 of the start time, the rain that was light rain gradually intensified, and the show started while it was raining frequently. The 2021 Spring / Summer collection pursues proportions by focusing on the femininity and power of "dresses" while maintaining a hybrid approach that shows multiple pieces that are typical of sacai as "one" items. A dress that combines a compact shirt or jacket with extra oversized pants and a belt is one of the iconic looks of the season. In addition, the details of the MA-1 and trench are used as skirt parts, and the loose fold pleats are reconstructed as a tailored suit to broaden the interpretation as a dress.
Of particular note were the fringe skirts that applied couture techniques and the styling British legendary artist sade's face-printed T-shirt. Abe, who finished the show later, also wore it and appeared in front of the invited guests, which made a stronger impression on his presence.
Printed is a portrait taken by photographer Albert Watson for his best album in 1994. Her femininity, strength, and softness, which Abe was influenced by in this season's production, are the fascinating power of her chest cutting, which is bolder than usual, and the lace that looks through between dresses. It also links to details such as the Pandou.
Sade's "Kiss of Life" was played at the finale as the rain got stronger. The venue was wrapped in her smoky voice, and despite the rainy weather, there was a dramatic and fantastic mood. After the show, Chitose Abe answered with a smile, "Rain is one of the productions." I would like to give a tribute to sacai, which pursues "new scenery" and keeps updating.
