At Gallery SAI in MIYASHITA PARK, an exhibition "JOHN HEARTFIELD" focusing on the poster of photographer and Dadaist John Heartfield has started.

John Heartfield is a person who continued his own production while being prosecuted as a non-national person in Germany under the control of the Third Reich by a method called "photo montage" using multiple exposure and composition of existing photographs and icons. From 1910 to the 20s, he was a member of Berlin Dada and worked as a communist. Calling himself "Montur (Assembler) Dada", along with his younger brother and editor Wierland Hertzfelde and caricaturist George Gross, the magazine "AIZ (Labor)" is a propaganda for the madness of war and politics. It was expressed bitterly through "Politics".

His detailed collages, typography, and research on printing technology have created a group of works that are closely related to the ideas of the constructivist Russian avant-garde Gustav Klutsis and Alexander Rodchenko, who were based in Russia at the same time. It is also possible to find sex, and it has become a representative existence that has evolved the value of art into editorial concepts such as photography and text, layout, manipulation and creation of meaning.

In this exhibition, posters centered on his original photo montage will be exhibited. Through this exhibition, I would like you to feel the potential of art that connects politics and the masses, which is strongly linked to the present age.
