The latest KAWS: HOLIDAY project for COMPANION's 20th anniversary set in space

KAWS has unveiled his latest project for "KAWS:HOLIDAY," which has been held in Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, and Japan. The next destination is space. Teaming up with Hong Kong-based creative studio AllRightsReserved, COMPANION, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, released a video of its journey into space.

KAWS: HOLIDAY SPACE's journey utilized an exploratory balloon to send COMPANION dressed in a space suit 41.5 km (136,296 feet) into the stratosphere. It ascended at ultra-high speed and wandered through empty space in zero gravity for two hours before returning to Earth. It took about eight hours from launch to landing, and the flight process was recorded with a 360-degree panoramic video camera.

KAWS commented, "So many projects have been cancelled this year. I wanted to create one that could be experienced safely from home. Because this year marks 20 years since I created COMPANION, I tried to find a way around all the restrictions and do something special. I felt so confined the past few months that creating a project like this has really given me a chance to escape."

The COMPANION figure dressed in a space suit will be released on August 18th at the DDT Store and will be available in gold, silver and black.
