— How did you spend your school days?

I used to play baseball until high school, but I went to Kuwasawa (Design Institute) after spending three days aiming for art.2I dropped out in a year. I used to go to Kuwasawa by car, but sometimes I was towed or I dig records without going to class.​I'm a filial person, it was a mess (laughs).

— But now he's a hot seller. In the profile of the website, you mentioned that you also referred to Art Director Fumiho Tachibana as your teacher and you were also a driver. What made you decide?

I met an art prep school, and it was Touchy who taught me how to draw for the first time. I started going to prep school around the summer when I had a bad time, and it started later than the others. However, even though everyone is challenging a class with a bunch of pencils, I only had a few of them, and I used headphones to draw pictures, so no one could teach me. It didn't come out. But one time, Touchy came to me and said, "How much do you have now" (laughs). When I showed you the contents of my wallet, I said "skein" and used that money to buy a lot of pencils at the shop. That's why I draw a picture, but on the way, I say "doke" and draw silently instead of me. I knew something like "drawing like this" and thought that this person was ridiculous. So when I asked him to be a disciple, he told me he would be a driver (laughs). Even now, I am a driver when there is an exhibition.

—  It's been a long time since then. It triggered the breakthroughBeastie BoysWhat was the process of working with?

In HarajukuBeams TThen, I had an exhibition of works that sampled record jackets. Just at that time,Beastie BoysSame label asNorah Jones(Nora Jones) was doing a concert in JapanJohn Silva(John Silva) was also visiting Japan. It happened that he was stayingBeams TI came to see my exhibition, but by chance, among the works I drew,John SilvaThere were many artists who were raised by.BeastieIncluding. — By the way, why is the activity nameNaijel GraphWhat?

I thought about various names for my activities in Japan, but maybe I'm a foreigner? I thought it would be a little nicer, but I thought about it as playful. I thought it would be interesting to have a stranger nationality. So I borrowed a name from an English friend and made the spelling romanizedNaijel Graph​ ​

I'm mainly in charge of merchandising ideas, designs, illustrations, etc.Evisen Skateboards,Tightbooth,Son of The CheeseOr, I've been in charge of music from a brand that I've been on good terms with since then, and I've also worked on a lot of visual music.

— I think I will continue to be involved in art, music, and apparel, but over the past few months, the new Corona has been disrupting and changing economic activities and lifestyles around the world. How is it personally? Please tell us about your future plans and outlook.

I agree. I had a lot of time to think about the changes in my life rhythm, but as I ended up doing the same things, I wanted to work hard, draw carefully, and convey more things.Hole and HollandBut,YO.AN,Haruka Katagata,MamazuWill be released, and we are also planning a collaboration project related to apparel.12In the moonBeams TandBeams RecordsWe are also planning to open a pop-up that will be held at the same time, and a store that combines music and apparel in Shinsen in Shibuya.
