Loie Hollowell

LOIE

It seems the female artist who debuted last year is represented by PACE.
This, I though, is like a CG version of Georgia O'Keeffe! The motif after all seems like it’s going in the same direction.
But it was painting rather than computer graphics.
I'm going to London in the autumn, but going to the exhibition is going to be tricky. I hope I can see it somewhere.
However, ever since last year's  retrospective at The Brooklyn Museum, the impression is worlds like Georgia O'Keeffe have been heavily involved in the fashion world, becoming lively again. Of all the things I thought when I saw, it didn't feel that related to a movement like #MeeToo.

“This new body of work considers the act of trying to conceive as well as conception itself. By layering the concerns of painting on top of hand sculpted bodily surfaces, these shapely forms exist in a space between the illusoriness of painting and dimensionality of sculpture."—Loie Hollowell – Two weeks until “#LoieHollowell: Dominant / Recessive” opens at #PaceGallery in London! On view from August 28 – September 20, 2018 at 6 Burlington Gardens, the works in the exhibition are reminiscent of luminary painters such as #AgnesPelton, #GeorgiaOKeeffe and #JudyChicago, as well as Light and Space artists such as #RobertIrwin and #JamesTurrell. Hollowell’s geometric, ephemeral, and meditative new works expand on previous depictions of sexual acts — for the first time, the pieces presented in "Dominant / Recessive" deal with thoughts surrounding conception. – Image: © Loie Hollowell
