Actor Gō Ayano recently caught my attention again with this.
Although the age he plays at the beginning has changed from the original, the look (complete with red beret) and tone (older, wiser) remain the same. The way these have come together though feels the actings forced. I thought this might be due to the order it was shot in … I guess actors are doing their best, but it would be nice he if had a decent role for a change.
Also, I think it was better as a film to explain the premise of ‘Ajin’ as a set of instructions like the original. It’s dull just spelling them out loud with subtitles. The whole thing also feels like the absurdity of the original have been scaled down. Feels like a full on Japanese film, but nothing special.
