The audio equipment maker SONOS has yet to officially launch in Japan.
There are speakers that work by connecting, for instance, via bluetooth with smart phones, but this streams with it’s own WiFi connection. It’s controlled with an iPhone without restraint and a phone call can be made while playing your Apple Music and Spotify playlists. This slight difference makes it much easier to use.
I had the showroom in Soho demonstrate. Staff were musicians, and almost all are involved with the music industry and not experienced with retail. Because it’s a space for music lovers, there is a Braun tape deck in the basement with Thurston Moore’s record collection on display. You can also enjoy the SONOS speaker by putting on a record.
I bought the PLAY:1.
The UI is excellent and is easy to setup from the app. The sound is also really good. Yes … this is bound to be a source of conversation once it lands in Japan.
