An izakaya serving Fukuoka udon has opened up in Nakameguro recently.
Looking around Nakameguro I was curious how it would fit in so visited the main store. It has always been difficult to make a reservation but on this day it’s fully packed as well.
I start with goma-saba (blue mackerel), a favorite of Fukuoka. As you’d expect it’s delicious. Due to what’s available it becomes kampachi (amberjack) in Nakameguro.
Itoshima-age. This is also a rarity in Nakameguro. But it is just as delicious baked by itself. I’ll go back and buy at Iwataya’s depachika (basement food court), my favorite in Japan.
I guess ‘Kakuten’ is only in Fukuoka. I’m always asking for saba-mirin (pickled mackerel) also the very taste of the city at the spirit of Fukuoka’s mentality, ‘Aji no masafuku’. In Nakameguro, it’s not quite the same thing.
I finish with a bowl of gobo-ten udon. This is a staple dish of Fukuoka too. It feel more tasty here for some reason than in ‘Kamakiri udon’. Soup stock maromi is excellent.
This place is really good. They’re really popular at the moment. It looks like they might open in Otemachi too.
