It was shocking the first time I heard The Latin Rascals around 1982 to 84.
New York friends would send me cassette recordings from stations like Kiss FM and WBLS.
Even when I would go there, they’d be sure to make recordings so I could bring them back with me.
There were lots of different DJ radio shows, but somehow or other The Latin Rascals stood out … and were new.
It was impossible to reproduce absolutely with just a turntable. They mixed with a tape editor and sampler.
Is it a remix, or a re-edit? They worked with well-known and unknown artists alike.

They were a pretty influential back then.
And still have something even if I listen to them now.
