There’s a good crop of photo exhibitions in Tokyo this autumn, along with Thomas Ruff.
I went to see‘Hiroshi Sugimoto – Lost Human Genetic Archive’​ ​at the recently renewed TOP Museum (Tokyo Photography Art Museum) without really knowing that much about it.
It wasn’t a simple photography exhibition.
Many of the installations include powerful narration in spite of being conceptual and differ from conventional work where you stand in front silently looking on. It was pretty interesting.I didn’t have the time to see it properly, but enjoyed flicking through catalogues after.​ ​
